Email marketing? Does it really work and can I make money from it? We all know how frustrating it is to work so hard at email marketing and to get no clicks or sales.
I am here to help you to run a successful email marketing campaign and one that converts by just following these 9 simple and easy steps.
Now, what Is Email Marketing all about?
Email marketing is like a strategy where you reach out to a large group of targeted audiences via email. You can then promote your products and services to your audience by creating an email campaign. The campaign can be about an upcoming sale, a new launch, a special offer, or really anything related to your business or niche. You mainly want to create brand awareness and build loyalty by reaching out to your customers but without spamming them or irritating them with lots of emails. I personally use GetResponse, click on the banners below to check them out, and start for free by increasing your leads and sales.
Let me tell you how you can make a big success of your email marketing.
1. Always Start With a Targeted List
Do you have a targeted email list? Without a targetted list you won’t be able to start a campaign. But how do I collect emails and convert my visitors into subscribers? One of the most successful ways to collect emails and achieve great results is by using an exit-intent popup to turn abandoning visitors into subscribers. As soon as the visitor leaves your site.
Many successful email marketers have used and achieved great results by using an exit-intent popups which turns abandoning website visitors into subscribers. Exit-intent popups are strategically designed to appear on your user’s screen as soon as they try to leave your site or open a new tab.
You must have a Goal for Your Campaign
Why are you running this campaign? If you don’t have a goal in mind, then stop your email campaign right now. What action do you want your subscribers to take?
A goal can be to:
- increase sales or promote a product or service
- nurture existing subscribers by offering them something for free
- attract your subscriber’s attention after being inactive with new products or deals
- and always segment your subscribers to send out the correct campaign to the correct targeted customer
Create your own list based on your conversion goals.
2. Always choose a very attractive Headline
Now it is time to draft your email after you figured out what the goal of your campaign is. The first thing users will see is the subject line, so that must be very catchy. Your headline must be so powerful that people just can’t ignore it. Your headline will determine whether your email will be opened, deleted, or end up in the spam folder.
3.Write an Email that is Engaging
Now that your subscriber opened your email because of your attractive headline, your email content must also be persuasive.
Use the following tips to create an engaging email:
- Always ask the reader to take one specific action.
- I personally recommend short sentences and paragraphs. This allows the users to quickly understand your message and not lose interest.
- Always build a connection with your subscribers. Make you subscriber feel that you are having a conversation directly with them.
- Always use the subscriber’s name as this will make the mailer very personalized. This will make them feel like the mailer was written for them and grabs their attention quickly.
- Always stay relevant and precise. Don’t use long and boring emails with lots of text and don’t add any spam or unnecessary things. Be to the point with a short message.
4. Want to boost your click-through rate then use Psychology
Use the game of psychology as part of your strategy if you want your emails to convert. Use the basics of psychology to predict your user’s behavior. Let them take quick action on your website by using a countdown timer to make them feel that their time is running out and the sale will come to an end soon. Grab user’s attention quickly by using time-sensitive power words.
Another good one is to state that your product is running low on stock and if they don’t take action soon they may lose out. Make use of scarcity to promote action and your subscribers will take quicker action than to miss the chance. I use GetResponse for my email marketing and save 18% with an annual plan.
5. Your design matters so use an effective one!
Your design must look very professional. GetResponse provides beautiful professionally-designed templates that will convert very well. Always choose the right words, color, and size for your buttons and make your Call To Actions very appealing.
6. Reward Your Subscriber
Give away some free stuff and don’t just sell all the time. It can even be a free download, tips, or advice. The subscriber is then more likely to take action as we all love free stuff.
7. Have you considered Upselling?
This popular method is used to smartly persuade your user to make an additional purchase. You might be selling a product for R220 and then convince the user to spend an extra few rands to get the upgraded version of the same product for example. You can build great landing pages with GetResponse!
8.Try Cross-selling Related Products
This technique is used to convince your user to spend extra money by purchasing an additional product of their interest. Let me give you an example of cross-selling: Let’s say you sell organic soap and the user purchases the soap and then gets an automated email that recommends a related product for example organic body lotion, the buyer might then be interested in buying the lotion too. A win-win situation 😉
9. The last step is to Send and Follow-Up
Hit the send button and always follow-up!
Wait a day or 2 after sending out your email write a quick follow-up email to your subscribers. You can actually also set up a follow-up email automatically and resend the email to people that haven’t seen it yet. This is just to remind them and to increase the chance of your subscribers to actually take action.
